| Lost Highway 1 - Leg 3 |
|
| Leg 3 of Lost Highway 1 is approximately 17 miles and should
appeal to riders of all types. While you start off in flatland farm country you
quickly arrive at tree-lined roads with long sweeping corners, a few tight
twisties and some terrific scenery. You will go through a few small towns and Hwy 1 actually turns into a few other roads before hitting Pismo, however signage is very good, just stay on Hwy 1 and you will have no problems. Note: If you pull up a detailed map of this section in any mapping program, you will see a few roads west of Hwy 1 (immediately beyond Gaudalupe) that appear to offer some riding possibilities. However, unless you are into riding very straight, flat roads that have very little to offer as far as riding is concerned, don't bother. I've done them and wish I had not. |
The Beginning of Leg 3, exiting Guadalupe and entering San
Louis Obispo County (what the sign reads).
|
You'll go through a bit of flat farmland and then get a
view of where the real fun begins...
|
Some nice wide sweepers through some terrific scenery. This
is the typical road condition for Leg 3.
|
You go through some sections of nice straightaways through
tree-lined Hwy 1.
|
Small farms and ranches dot the country side.
|
This is pretty typical of the traffic conditions. This pic
was taken on a mid Sunday afternoon.
|
The last section before hitting flat land again offers some
terrific twisties.
|
Back to the flat lands. Hold you nose here, these are
broccoli fields and the smell is somewhat ahh, well, like lots of broccoli
(it's bearable).
|
Finally you enter the town of Pismo Beach. Pismo is a beach
tourist town and as such offers many places for food, entertainment, beach
relaxation, etc.
|
Exiting Pismo you come to the end of Leg 3 and Lost Hwy 1.
|
You've Completed Leg 3 and the Lost Highway 1 Ride! From
here you can get on to Highway 101 either North or South. If you continue North
on 101 you can get back on Hwy 1 in San Luis Obispo and do the Big Sur run
(awesome). South on Hwy 101 will take you back to Santa
Barbara.
