Lost Highway 1 - Leg 2 Detour

The Harris Grade, San Antonio Rd, Black Road combination makes a terrific detour past some of the more mundane sections of Hwy 1. Coming North to South: Hwy 1 to Harris Grade Rd. Harris Grade Rd to Hwy 135. Hwy 135 to San Antonio Rd. San Antonio Rd to Black Rd. Black Rd. to Hwy 1.

Caveats: A couple little items to make a mental note of when doing this loop:

First, when you end Harris Grade and go left on 135, San Antonio Rd is about 1/4 mile up the 135, but is not well marked as San Antonio Rd, but instead as a way to get to Vandenberg AFB (see picture below). This is the only sign marking the entrance of San Antonio Rd from Hwy 135.

Second, when you get to Hwy 1 from San Antonio Rd, you must take a left (or right if coming from the north), travel up Hwy 1 about 1/4 mi., then take another right were San Antonio Rd picks up again. San Antonio Rd is well marked from Hwy 1.

Finally, when you get to the fork in the road from San Antonio Rd, you will only see 1 small sign that points to Casmalia, take a right and go up Casmalia Rd which will soon turn into Black Rd. The only sign you see will point you right towards Casmalia or left towards the Vandenberg AFB golf course. Take a right towards Casmalia.
