Goto SBC-Rides.com Home Page Lost Highway 1 - Leg 2

Leg 2 of Lost Highway 1 is the longest section of the entire run (approx. 32 miles) and is filled with long sweeping corners and 2 lane highway, followed by long straight stretches of single lane highway and through some very rustic farmland. I would characterize this section as one cruisers would enjoy most, although using a couple of detours this ride quickly appeals to all.

You will have to Navigate your way through Lompoc and Vanderberg Airforce Base but signage is very good and I have many photo's of the landmarks to keep an eye out for.

Note: If you pull up a map of this section in any mapping program, you will see a few more runs west of Hwy 1 that I have not listed here. This is because the majority of runs in this area are on official Vandenberg Airforce property and as such and closed to the public.

The End of Leg 1. To continue on to Leg 2 take a Left on Hwy 1/246 to Lompoc.

Down a couple miles you will come to H Street and see the sign for Hwy 1 - Vandenberg AFB - Santa Maria. Take a right here.

After riding through the town of Lompoc you will come to the end of town were the Lompoc Airport is located (do not freak out if you see a low flying Cesna directly over-head).

Once you pass the old Valley Drive-In Theatre you are getting close to the Harris Grade intersection.

The Harris Grade Intersection. If you want to continue on the true Hwy 1 route then take a left here. Harris Grade Road also provides a terrific detour route.

Continuing on Hwy 1 towards Vandenberg Airforce base.

You are now at the entrance of the Vandenberg Airforce Base. Take a right to continue on Hyw 1.

Now your back on a wide sweeping 2 lane highway through the farmland of central California. This picture was taken around noontime on a Sunday afternoon and represents the typical traffic condition.

As you can see this section is filled with wide rolling turns.

About 1/2 to Gaudalupe Hwy 1 turns back into a single lane highway with lots of straightaway sections.

The Black Road Intersection. This is a well marked intersection although the actual street sign with Black Road on it is difficult to see. If you want to go through Black Road here take a left, towards Casmalia/Vandenberg as the sign says. If you are coming from the west side of Black Road and want to continue on Hwy 1 hang a left on Hwy 1.

You'll see lots of farms in the small communities that dot Hwy 1.

Kick back and cruise....Note the large fog bank up in the distance. This is quite typical for the area being so near the coastline, and it can pay to be prepared for a little cold weather on the Hwy 1 route.

Your now entering the town of Guadalupe.

The town of Guadalupe. Small Spanish/Mexican restaurants abound. The town has seen some better days (as noted by the number of buildings boarded up), but still has life and you may catch a few other riders hanging out at the Tavern.

You've Completed Leg 2. To continue on Leg 3 simply stay on Hwy 1.

Also be sure to check out the Harris Grade, San Antonio Road, Black Road rides on Leg 2.
