Highway 150 - Sulphur Mtn Rd.

During my many rides on Hwy 150 I had always noticed the microwave tower on the top of Sulphur Mountain (west of 150). I just knew there had to be a way up there. Just when I thought I had exhausted all possibilities I found Sulphur Mtn Rd! Oh what a little gem of a find....

Sulphur Mtn Rd. is simply fantastic. It is only 4.8 miles in length and then dead-ends (damn!). Normally I would not post such a short ride that is not a connector to other, bigger rides. However, if your riding around Hwy 150 and would like a little detour, Sulphur Mtn Rd. is well worth it, despite being so short.

Sulphur Mtn Rd is NOT well marked (I must have ridden past it half a dozen times looking before spotting it, although I was probably distracted by the beautiful countryside). You really need to keep an eye out for the street sign, it is the only marker.

Very quickly into the ride you start hitting the twisties...


Yea! This is a tight sweeper!


You start getting into the tree-line soon into the ride...


Little farms, ranches and houses are all about.


This scene was spectacular, and even better in person. The road is almost calling you forward..."Come ride me"...


The view into the Ojai Valley. Hwy 150 is down there somewhere...


Don't you just dream of curves like this? There is no shortage of them on Sulphur Mountain.


AGH!!! 30 Miles too short! Like I said, this is a short little ride as the road will not allow you to go further. If you're a bicyclist you can get through and riding is permitted, the road turns to fire road shortly ahead. If your a Street riding motorcyclist though your out of luck. I could have ridden this road as far as it would take me. Unfortunately that is only 4.8 miles.
